Recently, Chengdu Image Design Technology Co., Ltd. launched its latest medical product — the MIM10S1 disposable endoscope module. Designed for applications with stringent requirements on device size and imaging quality, such as disposable medical endoscopes, veterinary endoscopes, and high-precision industrial endoscopes, the MIM10S1 features targeted design optimizations in chip size, imaging performance, and system integration. In disposable medical endoscope applications, the product is compatible with various endoscope types, including ureteroscopes, choledochoscopes, and bronchoscopes. It aims to provide a stable and reliable core imaging component for the medical endoscope industry, enabling more refined and convenient diagnostic and therapeutic experiences.

Ultra-Compact Design

Addressing the strict limitations on probe diameter in medical endoscopes, the MIM10S1 achieves a significant breakthrough in physical structure. Its image sensor chip measures just 1 mm × 1 mm with an optical format of 1/18″. At the module packaging level, the MIM10S1 module (lens + sensor) dimensions are only 1.05 mm × 1.05 mm × 1.8 mm. This size advantage allows seamless integration into narrow-lumen endoscopes such as ureteroscopes, choledochoscopes, and bronchoscopes, providing physicians with greater flexibility during complex surgical procedures.

High-Definition Imaging and Low-Light Performance

While achieving miniaturization, the MIM10S1 does not compromise on image quality. The product features a 1.008 μm pixel unit size with a standard resolution of 720 × 720, meeting clinical needs for observing microscopic structures such as mucosal tissue and vascular texture. In addition, the module delivers a dynamic range exceeding 70 dB and readout noise of less than 1.4e⁻ (@ 8× gain), contributing to well-stratified, noise-controlled images in environments with weak reflected light within body cavities, thereby providing visual support for accurate diagnosis.

Low Power Consumption and Stable Transmission

To address the sensitivity of portable and disposable devices to data transmission and power consumption, the MIM10S1 has been specifically optimized. With a typical power consumption of approximately 33 mW (@ 3.0 V), it delivers a smooth rate of 30 fps while effectively reducing overall system heat generation and energy usage. On the interface side, the MIM10S1 adopts a multiplexed IIC/LVDS design, supporting stable signal transmission over distances up to 4 meters. Combined with a wide voltage supply range of 2.8 V to 3.3 V, it enhances the device's adaptability to various external power environments. These features help simplify system power and communication design, improving the integration level and energy efficiency of the overall solution.

Excellent Optical Performance

The MIM10S1 module structure is designed with consideration for the front-end optical requirements of endoscopes. It supports a chief ray angle (CRA) of 30°, is matched with an f/4.0 optical system and a 0.42 mm focal length lens, provides a field of view (FOV) of approximately 120°, and supports a depth of field ranging from 3 mm to 50 mm. This ensures stable and reliable operation within the final optical system while delivering images that meet expectations.

Resolution Testing

To ively verify the actual imaging performance of the MIM10S1, rigorous laboratory comparison tests were conducted. The tests followed standard procedures, utilizing the USAF 1951 resolution test chart to comprehensively evaluate the product's center resolution and effective depth of field across eight key distances ranging from 3 mm to 50 mm.

The measured data demonstrates that the MIM10S1 outperforms industry comparable products in center resolution across all tested distances. At a close distance of 3 mm, the MIM10S1 resolves Group 5-3 / 40.30 lp/mm of detail; at 10 mm, the resolved line pairs are Group 3-6 / 14.30 lp/mm. Its resolution capability remains at a high level, rendering test pattern details with greater clarity, sharper lines, and clearer pattern edges. This advantage remains consistent across the entire tested range from 3 mm to 50 mm.

 

Furthermore, 0.7-field resolution testing conducted at a 7 mm distance also revealed that edge clarity performance is equally superior to that of industry comparable products.

More importantly, across the working range of 3 mm to 50 mm, the MIM10S1 consistently maintains angular resolution at over 80% of the performance achieved at the optimal distance (7 mm). This ensures that in practical applications, regardless of minor adjustments in observation distance, stable, reliable, and richly detailed clear images can be obtained, providing trustworthy visual assurance for precision instruments such as endoscopes.
