CCME2025 Review: Image Design's Path to Localizing Medical CIS
Chengdu Image Design Technology Co., Ltd. ("Image Design"), a leading domestic supplier of medical-grade CMOS image sensors, showcased its fully localized endoscope chip solution at Booth B032 in the Supply Chain Hall (Hall A) during the CCME2025 Global Medical Device Innovation Conference & 9th Endoscopy Congress, held in Nanjing on July 24-25, 2025. The company further attracted significant industry attention when Song Bo, Head of Marketing, delivered a keynote speech titled "The Path to Localization of Endoscopic CMOS Chips" at the Endoscope Design & Manufacturing Technology Conference.

Transforming Pain Points into Leadership

During his speech, Mr. Song Bo pointed out that medical endoscope CMOS image sensors have long faced technical challenges, with core pain points including the widespread use of analog output, limited pixel size, low sensitivity, small dynamic range, and a lack of specialized optimization for specific medical scenarios such as fluorescence (NIR) imaging. Although the number of domestic ps in the field has increased in recent years, the industry still struggles with low-level, homogeneous alternatives: most solutions continue to follow analog works, failing to fully incorporate new CIS technologies, resulting in limited resolution improvements.
Leveraging the advantage of its owned Fab, Image Design has achieved a technological breakthrough: by adopting a 55nm Pixel + 28nm Logic hybrid process, it has pioneered digital output and increased photosensitive area with smaller pixel sizes in the medical field. The company innovatively introduced BCF isolation technology and DTI (Deep Trench Isolation), combined with a DCG + LOFIC dynamic expansion architecture. This architecture utilizes high-density HD-MIM capacitors to manage overflow electrons, effectively solving the overexposure problem caused by strong intracavitary reflections.
